Considering kitsch as an aesthetic category can be controversial. By definition, the term is pejorative. Why, then, have artists consciously begun to use it? This phenomenon is highlighted by Julia Curyło's canvas, on the surface of which gold flakes, glitter or sequins glitter. These elements are a reference - as if an attribute of the figures depicted in the painting - well-known representatives of modern art, whose rivalry in the art world has been depicted by the painter, at the same time touching on the subject of works that do not carry any content, but are undoubtedly aesthetic and decorative objects. Julia Curyło shows how mass culture, pop styling, encroaches on various areas of life including artistic life, perhaps provoking a discussion whether, in the face of the commercialization of creativity, for example, a stylishly framed graphic from Ikea will soon also begin to be considered a work of art.
