Leopold Gottlieb (1879-1934) - painter and printmaker of Jewish descent, born in Drohobych. He studied at the Cracow Academy of Fine Arts under Jacek Malczewski, as well as in Munich and Paris. He was associated with École de Paris, and was friends with such artists as Eugene Zak, Moses Kisling and Elie Nadelman. Gottlieb's work is distinguished by its lyrical narrative, synthetic drawing, subtle colors and frequent religious, feminine and symbolist themes. In the 1920s he exhibited in prestigious galleries in Europe and the United States. He died tragically in 1933 in Paris.
