Biography
She studied in Warsaw: from 1924 to 1930 at the Music Conservatory in the piano class, and concurrently at the School of Fine Arts in Tadeusz Pruszkowski’s studio. She frequently participated in plein air painting workshops in Kazimierz Dolny; during one such event in 1926, an amateur film featuring her and directed by Pruszkowski was made, titled “The Happy Hangman, or California in Poland.” She held her first solo exhibition as early as 1930 in Paris, followed by exhibitions in Genoa (1931), Brussels (1935—awarded), Boston, Chicago, Toronto, Paris (1937—Grand Prix in decorative arts), Rapperswil, New York, Stockholm, and London (1939). She also participated in national exhibitions. From 1934 to 1936, she studied set design at the Department of Directing at the State Institute of Theater Arts. She designed sets for plays and operas and collaborated with the most prominent directors, including Leon Schiller, Aleksander Zelwerowicz, Edmund Wierciński, and later Bohdan Korzeniewski. She was also the creator of outstanding set designs for opera and ballet productions at the Warsaw Opera. After 1978, she devoted herself entirely to painting. Her rich artistic body of work was frequently presented in the postwar period at solo and group exhibitions both in Poland and abroad, including in London, Prague, Venice, Nancy, Nice, Milan, East Germany, Moscow, Leningrad, Oslo, and Neuchtel. Teresa Roszkowska died tragically, murdered in her villa in Saska Kępa.
