Biography
Polish folk sculptor. He has been sculpting since childhood, creating his first works during the German occupation by carving whistles, figurines, and birds. After graduating from elementary school, he worked at the Plastics Plant in Pustków, but an accident and serious head injuries forced him to retire on disability. From that time on, sculpture became the artist’s main occupation.
For most of his life, Stręk created locally, remaining virtually unknown to the wider public. His work was not recognized until the end of his life. The artist’s sculptures are distinguished by their austere, minimalist, and hieratic form. The multicolored polychromy and the characteristic, tightly arranged figures give his works a monumental, almost architectural character, setting them apart from folk sculpture in the traditional sense.
