From the opinion attached to the painting: Paintings expressing Axentowicz's fascination with Hutsul folklore constitute an important part of the artist's oeuvre. It opens with the monumental "Funeral in Ruthenia" (1882), in composition similar to the
to the later theme of "The Feast of the Jordan," a separate work - equally often repeated by the painter - is "Kolomyjka" (1895). Axentowicz belonged to a group of artists fascinated by Hutsul culture, which was "discovered" by
earlier by Kazimierz Wójcicki, Wincenty Pol, Oskar Kolbe, painters Tadeusz Jaroszyński, Tadeusz Rybkowski, among others. He inspired the younger generation of artists: Kazimierz Sichulski, Fryderyk Pautsch, Władysław Jarocki.
The reviewed version of "The Feast of the Jordan," also known under the title "The Procession of the Jordan," shows a close relationship to a slightly smaller version (46 x 60 cm) created around 1910, located in the District Museum in Lublin
(Kozakowska, II 15, p. 132, fig. 86). The two versions differ slightly especially in the details of the further plans.
