Stanisław KAMOCKI (1875-1944)
Young Poland landscape painter and printmaker. He studied painting in 1891-1900 at the School of Fine Arts in Cracow under the direction of Leon Wyczółkowski, Jacek Malczewski and Jan Stanislawski, among others, and continued his studies in Paris in 1901-1902. During World War I, he served in the First Brigade of the Legions. He lived in Krakow and Zakopane, where he had his own studio. From 1919 he headed the landscape department at the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow, and became a professor in 1937. During the occupation, from 1942, he taught painting at the Zakopane School of Highland Folk Art. He was a member of the Society of Polish Artists "Art", the Vienna Secession and the Society "Podhale Art", among others. He was buried in the Old Cemetery in Zakopane. He is considered one of the most outstanding students of Jan Stanislawski and continuators of Polish landscape painting. He painted mainly outdoors - landscapes of Volhynia, Podolia, the vicinity of Cracow and the Tatra Mountains, occasionally still lifes.
