Painter and printmaker born in Kolobrzeg, originally trained in chemistry, around 1890 he was sent as an apprentice to the Academy in Karlsruhe, where he apprenticed in the studios of Julius Bergmann and Friedrich Kallmorgen. Max Lieber remained in the city for his art studies, serving there, among other positions, as president of the local Artists' Association (Karlsruher Künstlerbundes) and conservator of the Baden Art Association (Badischer Kunstvereins).
