Jan Erazm Kotowski (Opatkowiczki near Pińczów, 1885–1960, Milanówek) studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków under J. Unierzyski and L. Wyczółkowski from 1902 to 1911. He received a scholarship and left for Paris in 1908. He was a member of the TZSP and the “Pro-Arte” group. In 1937, he received a silver medal for his work “In Volhynia.” He painted rural and urban landscapes as well as genre scenes, but his favorite subject was the overworked, emaciated horse. He worked in oils. This artist’s works can be viewed at the National Museum in Warsaw, Kraków, and Poznań, as well as at the National Library and the Museum of Art in Łódź.
