In 1924, Bronisława Rychter-Janowska set out on a journey through Europe with her adopted daughter, Matylda. Traveling through Austria and Italy, they reached Spain, where they visited, among other places, Seville, Madrid, Barcelona, and the Alhambra—where this view was painted. The artist captured the picturesque Myrtle Courtyard (from the Spanish “Patio de los Arrayanes”) with its distinctive pool and openwork arcades, which is part of the 14th-century Comares Palace.
