Biography
I paint human emotions. I look for inspiration in women's stories, so participating in the Herstory project was a dream challenge for me. I was looking for a strong character that I could portray.
The character of Queen Louisa Maria Gonzaga is unique because of her steadfastness and political activism. At a time when patriarchal principles encompassed all aspects of life, a woman was expected to be submissive and passive, focused on her role as wife, mother and housekeeper, the Queen was a model of an independent, courageous and unyielding ruler who realistically ruled.
She was politically active to the displeasure of the Polish nobility. She exemplifies the influence of the individual on cultural and social change.
When painting the portrait of the Queen, I tried to refer to the portrait art of the 17th century, while at the same time giving the figure itself a modern character beyond its time. She is proud, strong and confident, but an attentive viewer will also see nostalgia and sadness in her.
