The economy of means and balanced organization of the canvas are combined here with the ambiguous, moving eloquence of the forms, which by the very matter of painting tell the story of vastness and horizontality, of the line as the limit of vision and the threshold of the invisible. This intimate, gray painting with a condensed structure and intriguing content appears as the quintessence of the painting idiom developed by Fijałkowski. This language took its mature form at the turn of the fifth and sixth decades of the last century, when the artist was entering a period of artistic fullness; the work from 1966 seems to be a special summary of this period, proof that awareness of one's own means and awareness of their limits can coexist within a single, seemingly silent canvas.
