Nestor Leontos Warweris (Νέστωρ Λέοντος Βαρβέρης) (Leonidio 1867–1954 – Leonidio) – Greek painter. He created works with religious and historical themes, as well as landscapes and portraits. Born deaf and mute, at the age of 13 he quickly demonstrated a passion for painting, which led him to the Academy of Fine Arts in Athens; he later studied in Paris, where he won first prize for pencil drawing and second prize for oil painting. During those years in Paris, there are also accounts of his meeting with the then Prime Minister of Greece, Harilaos Trikoupis, who admired the artistic merit of the artist’s works. His paintings are in the collections of the National Museum of Athens and the Louvre. In 2011, a similar painting featuring a fisherman was presented at a solo exhibition of Warweris’s work in Leonidio.
