Biography
He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Nuremberg and Berlin, as well as at the Academy in Munich. He undertook numerous trips throughout Europe. From 1911 to 1915, he lived in Istanbul—from there, he traveled to Jerusalem, Persia, Egypt, Ethiopia, India, and Mongolia, and visited the Caucasus and Tibet. In 1918, he settled permanently in Sopot. He led a very active artistic life and held numerous exhibitions both in Poland and abroad. In 1934, he founded and organized the Gallery of Marine Painting (Maritime Gallery) in Gdynia. The collection of his paintings—over 500 works—was destroyed in 1939. At his own expense, he published the art and literary magazine *Fale*. In 1959, he was the only Pole to participate in an exhibition of marine painting at the Royal Society and the Society of British Marine Painters. He devoted his entire great talent to marine painting—in his youth, he vowed to dedicate his artistic service to the Polish sea.
