Lot information
The illustration "Caballero" from 1892 was used for the novel "Les Vrais Riches" by the French writer Francois Coppee. This novel, dealing with the contrast between material and spiritual wealth, was illustrated by several artists, including Maroldo, Gambard, and others. In his illustration of the elegant Spanish knight, Marold masterfully captures the character's atmosphere and psychology, amplifying the novel's themes of true values and inner wealth. The work is characterized by delicate work with monochromatic tones and carefully rendered details, typical of Marold's style and his contribution to European book illustration
