Pius II (1458-1464) Grosso - Munt. 12 AG RR Excellent quality specimen accompanied by beautiful iridescent patina. TOP POP, best certified specimen NGC MS 63 cod. 2809904-006. The coinage of this splendid coin of great rarity and very fine style is attributed to the great Folignate engraver Emiliano Orfini, whose initials are clearly visible on the reverse between the two saints. He was, not only an outstanding engraver, but also an innovator of his art as well as of the emerging art of typography. Such a coin can well be called a transition point from the Middle Ages to the Renaissance!
