A beautiful piece of a prized issue. Vicarian ducats are among the rare items on the auction market, especially in such beautiful states of preservation.
These issues are filled with symbolism. The empty throne with imperial regalia symbolizes the death of the reigning Emperor, while legend also explains that at this time the ruler immortalized on the obverse legally becomes Vicar and Provost of Saxony in place of the deceased.
Slight violations of the highest parts of the relief.
Obverse: equestrian figure of Augsut III to the right, in the rim legend:
*D.G-FRID-AUG-REX POL-DUX SAX-ARCHIM-& ELECTOR;
Reverse: throne, in the rim legend:
*IN PROVICIIS IUR-SAXON-PROVISOR ET VICARIUS 1741;
Gold, diameter 21.6 mm, weight 3.50 g.
