Viktoras Petravičius (1906-1989) was one of the most famous Lithuanian graphic artists of the 20th century, a master of linocut and a modernist painter.
Victor Petravičius's prints are distinguished by their strong expression, powerful black and white contrasts and decorative, clearly stylised line. His linocuts and other graphic works combine the traditions of Lithuanian folk art with modernist, emotive visual thinking.
Petravičius often depicts mythological, sacred and natural motifs, which he transforms into symbolic, intense compositions. His world is archaic, dramatic and full of inner energy. Man and nature merge into one organic whole, and each work has a clear, individual touch.
This is a graphic art that, with its power and visual language, occupies a special place in 20th-century Lithuanian art and is considered one of the most original and powerful forms of Lithuanian expressive graphic arts.
