Biography
A graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts in Katowice (2007–2012). From 1999 to 2005, she earned her medical degree from the Medical University of Silesia; from 2007 to 2010, she pursued doctoral studies in psychiatry at the same university. Her interdisciplinary academic career path has become the foundation of her unique approach to her art. Bażowska creates compositions in which the body and the psyche are inextricably linked. Bażowska’s artistic career began in 2011, when, as a fourth-year painting student, she won first prize in the Hestia Artistic Journey competition and in the “Świeża Krew” Young Art Review in Wrocław. In 2013, she received an honorable mention in the Modessque International Painting Competition, a nomination for the Geppert Competition, and awards from the University of Arts in Poznań and the “New Image/New Perspectives” competition. She has also received scholarships from the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage and the Marshal of the Silesian Voivodeship.
Natalia Bażowska’s works have been exhibited in Poland (including the Zachęta Project Space in Warsaw, the Kronika Bytom Center for Contemporary Art, the BWA Olsztyn Bunkier Sztuki, and Kraków) and abroad. In 2016, she presented solo exhibitions at the Blanca Soto Gallery in Madrid (“External Memory”) and Tabakalera in San Sebastián (“12 per minute”). In 2017, she participated in the 7th Moscow International Biennale of Contemporary Art “Clouds ? Forests” at the Tretyakov Gallery, alongside artists from 25 countries, including Matthew Barney and Olafur Eliasson, curated by Yuko Hasegawa. She has collaborated with international institutions and specialists from other fields—such as animal experts—on video projects, as well as in group exhibitions like “Cool Down” (2018) in Katowice during COP24, featuring 16 artists from various countries.
