Austrian officer cavalry saber model 1869, made as a gift. The blade is etched and bears the inscription "Am 18. August 1901 / Treu bis in den Tod", which refers to its award in celebration of the birthday of Emperor Francis Joseph I. The nickel plating on the blade is falling off. Scabbard was secondarily blackened, probably during WWI.
