Luigi Improta is an Italian contemporary painter who creates oil paintings inspired by classical European painting. His work stems from many years of academic experience and professional engagement with historical monuments and works of art from the past.
For many years, the artist worked as a university professor, specializing in issues related to cultural heritage. Frescoes, as well as the conservation and restoration of historical paintings, held a particularly important place in his work. Direct contact with traditional techniques allowed him to gain a deep understanding of how to build compositions, model figures with light, achieve depth of color, and render the texture of fabrics, leather, and objects.
After concluding his academic career, Improta focused on his own artistic practice. He transferred the knowledge he had acquired over decades onto canvas, creating paintings in which traditional technique meets contemporary imagination and sensibility.
The human figure remains the central theme of his painting. The artist is particularly drawn to the subject of female portraits, treating them not only as an attempt to depict the model’s appearance but, above all, as a study of the emotions, character, and inner world of the subject.
