The Union of Fighters for Freedom and Democracy (ZBoWiD) - a veterans' organization formed in 1949, as a result of the imposed unification of 11 existing organizations of veterans and prisoners of Nazi camps that had been operating since 1945. Until 1965, the ZBoWiD denied membership to many veterans, mainly for political reasons, including some soldiers of the Home Army. Until 1989, politically and organizationally subordinated to the PZPR. The magazine FOR FREEDOM AND PEOPLE was initially published as a biweekly, and from 1970 as a weekly. Despite the partyization of the magazine, it published many articles documenting the events, stories and vivid accounts of the last war.
