In the first annuals of the WPH, in addition to politically correct articles about the LWP, AL, GL, BCh, it was possible to print memoirs of direct witnesses of the assassinations of KUTSCHERA, STAMMA, the actions of the CELESTINS, under ARSENAL, under CZARNOCIN, participants in the fights for MONTE CASSINO, the case of JANUSZ ALBRECHT and many others.
In 1929-1939, it was published by the Military Historical Bureau as HISTORICAL REVIEW, and in 1956-1997 by the Military Historical Institute under the name WOJSKOWY PRZEGLĄD HISTORYCZNY. WPH did not take over the title and numbering of its pre-war original . This was due to the difficult political situation in the country. The main topic covered in its pages was World War II. As written in the first issue from the end of 1956, the goal of WPH was to actively shape the interests and, above all, the views of a wide range of readers on the course and nature of World War II, the formation of a new socialist historical consciousness, the dissemination of knowledge about the liberation war of the Polish nation, the collection and making available to the reader as many works about that period as possible. The 1960s and 1970s ensured WPH's rapid development, it was published regularly 4 times a year, the volume of each issue did not fall below 300 pages
