Władysław Cegła (1907-2012) - Polish artist, active for most of his life in France. At the age of 23 he left Poland and settled in France, where he initially worked in a mine, but very quickly turned to art. He fought in World War II, spending two years in Austria as a prisoner of war. After the war ended, he returned to France, where he initially settled in Paris, soaking up the artistic atmosphere of Montmartre. He later became a clown at the Medrano circus (one of France's oldest and largest circuses), without interrupting his artistic career. In later years, he settled in Honfleur (Normandy), where he concentrated primarily on painting. Calm, light-drenched landscapes, marinas, and circus subjects play a large role in his work.
