WOMAN IN BLUE HAT Watercolor, paper; 29 x 20 cm (H&W) Signed p.g.; J.S. Juliusz STUDNICKI 1906 Kniżyce - 1978 Warsaw Studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow from 1924 to 1929, continuing his studies at the Paris Branch of the academy under Jozef Pankiewicz in the academic year 1927/28. From 1932 to 1937 he exhibited with the group Pryzmat, formed by the students of Felicjan Szczęsny Kowarski. After World War II he found himself on the Coast, co-organizing the artistic life and schooling of Gdansk and Sopot. From 1945 to 1963 he was a professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Sopot, co-creator of the phenomenon of the so-called Sopot School - a synthetic variety of colorism, whose formula, close to realism, allowed a compromise with the doctrine of socialist realism, thanks to which the environment emerged from it relatively unscathed. In 1959 Studnicki took up a professorship at the Academy of Fine Arts' Faculty of Painting. He retired in 1971. Initially, he painted in a post-impressionist manner, breaking up and differentiating color patches. During the Sopot School period, he disciplined his form, creating still lifes and landscapes that were synthetic in expression. Asking price 1500 Estimate 1900 - 2000
