"With my heart I am close to the voyeur Hopper and other charming guys with character: Beckman, Buffet, Hockney. When I paint, I evoke ghosts with whom something connected me. Things that were or are, I show in fictionalized terms, fidelity to reality is a secondary issue for me, emotion, the mood of the moment becomes more important. I often turn my paintings to films, literature, music. In the painting I do a lot is from illustration - and vice versa. I like night views, light painted from the point of view of darkness. I like the false sense of security that artificial light creates. I try to recreate that impression on canvas. I'm inspired by being on the road, the lethargic world of the night shift - small towns, roadside bars, motels, the emptiness of a hotel lobby. The leitmotifs return stubbornly: falling snow, embers and cigarette smoke, cars, palm trees, urban neon signs. The interpretation of a scene is left to the viewer, in the hope of creating a completely separate, new, personal story."
