Janina Czech-Kapłan was born in 1916 in Zakopane, died there in 2005. She was a mountaineer and skier, also engaged in artistic creation - painting on glass and porcelain. She was a member of the Zakopane Highlanders' Association, and her works were exhibited, including at the Gallery under the Chapel in Jaszczurówka in Zakopane or at expositions organized by Cepelia and local museums. The artist's paintings have also been admired abroad - in Chicago (1972) or in Northwood (1977), where she won second prize at the Greater Northwood Arts & Crafts festival. Her glass-painted paintings are in many collections of regional museums, such as those in Zakopane, Warsaw, Cracow and Rabka, as well as in churches in and around Zakopane.
