The dominant themes in Jan Szancenbach's paintings are still lifes and landscapes and the value of color. The artist learned a special attitude to color-based painting in the studios of the Krakow Academy of Fine Arts from Wojciech Weiss and Eugeniusz Eibisch, among others. In 1961, he went to Paris on a scholarship. The painter did not depart from the classical form in art, despite the flourishing varieties of avant-garde tendencies in the artistic environment. The works of the artist and later educator, however, were not exclusively realistic depictions. Some of Jan Szancenbach's canvases vibrate with impasto-layered color feria, others depict geometrized images of dishes, fruits, flowers. The painter's paintings exude positive energy and joie de vivre, which also accompanied the artist himself enjoying the pleasures of existence, such as buying a good car, necessarily a Mercedes. The featured painting is an extremely rare composition by Jan Szancenbach, characterized by geometrized form and structural experiments (admixture of sand to paint), and dates from the 1970s.
