Deciduous oak - watercolor, paper, size 40x30 cm in light p-p, signed p.d. "Erwin Czerwenka....", on the reverse handwritten in ink "Emil Czerwenka, Kraków, Grobla 9" "1.... "Oak slurred and in pencil".
Born in Chernivtsi in 1887, died in 1970 in Cracow.
He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow in 1905/06-10. He was a pupil of L. Wyczółkowski, whose work - like that of J. Stanislawski - had a great influence on him. He made frequent trips to Italy and France. He painted landscapes and portraits, and later designed stained glass windows. In 1913-1930, he was a professor of drawing in Krakow gymnasiums. He was a co-founder of the Union of Polish Artists (circa 1915). He participated in many exhibitions including: Exhibition of E. Czerwenka and Z. Stryjeńska, Krakow (1928), Exhibition at TPSP, Krakow (1921, 1929, 1934), "Wojciech Weiss and his students", TPSP Krakow (1934), Exhibition of TZSP in Warsaw with "Group of Four". The artist's paintings are in the collection of the National Museum in Cracow.
