"The figure of Jeremy Wisniowiecki, popular not so much because of historiography as because of the historical novel, has not yet lived to see a major scholarly monograph. Although historians dealing with the 17th century, especially with the history of the Cossack wars, have encountered the person of Wiśniowiecki in their works, but having other tasks before them, they could not properly highlight and deal with him more closely, so he appears in the background, often highlighted one-sidedly, depending on the views of historians who could not reconstruct the whole picture from fractional events. In historiography, Jeremi Wiśniowiecki appears mostly and almost exclusively against the backdrop of the Cossack wars, and then he becomes a personage of relatively minor importance, shrouded only in the nimbus of heroism (Kubala), or an ambitious and pernicious warlord (Szajnocha), or a symbol of healthy noble thought (Rawita Gawronski), or finally a renegade and bloodthirsty enemy of the Ukrainian people (Lipinski)."
