Code civil, was introduced in 1804 in France on the initiative of Napoleon Bonaparte revolutionizing civil law. The Code had a huge impact on legislation in many European countries (including the Duchy of Warsaw). It regulated such issues as private property, marriage, inheritance and contract law. It was also the first step toward the unification of law, emphasizing the principles of equality before the law and the secular nature of the state. Luxurious binding, beautiful state of preservation.
