Description:

Trilingual edition with text printed simultaneously in Polish, French and Latin, translated by Franciszek Ksawery Szaniawski.

Napoleon's Civil Code (French: Code Napoléon, Code civil des Français) - a set of rules and legal norms of civil law introduced in France in 1804 by Napoleon Bonaparte. It was the first great codification of French law, following the collapse of the ancien regime as a result of the French Revolution. It introduced many modern solutions such as the issue of civil divorce. From 1804 to 1807 it was called the Civil Code of the French, and from 1807. Napoleon's Code, to emphasize the emperor's ties to the codification After the fall of Napoleon in 1815, it was called simply the Civil Code. The importance of the Code went beyond France; it contributed to the unification of the provinces of the Empire, became a model for codification in Europe (including Italy and the German states) and was introduced on Polish soil as the civil law of the Duchy of Warsaw in 1808 . To this day, it remains the basis of the French legal system.

The volume opens with [2] unnumbered pages and VIII pages of introduction, containing explanatory notes, references to Polish law and translator's notes. It is followed by the extensive body of the code comprising 568 pages of text, printed in a large, easy-to-read format typical of official prints.
