Bernard Locca was a French artist, known mainly for his portraits and genre scenes in the post-war and contemporary styles. After graduating from the Academy of Fine Arts (Fine Arts) in Paris, Locca settled in Montmartre in the 1950s, where he opened his first studio. He began as a Montmartre portraitist and over time became a respected artist, especially in the field of portraiture. His works often focused on people, especially figures from Parisian life. He painted children, ballerinas, clowns, as well as portraits of beautiful women. His work shows an interest in the so-called "people of the people" - street vendors or the "greasers" of the streets of Montmartre. His style is categorized as part of the trend of the Paris School (École de Paris) - often figurative, but with the use of abstract or dark, moody backgrounds that strongly expose the portrayed figure.
His well-known works include portraits such as Ballerina (1962), Portrait of a Blonde Beauty (1963), Harlequin (1965), and Portrait of a Boy. His works are regularly exhibited at auctions, where they are highly regarded by collectors.
