Spanish School, 17th Century, Seated Boy Carrying a Basket with a Cat. A boy sits on a parapet and looks to the top left. He holds a basket with a young cat, which he supports on his thigh. He is barefoot and wears a brown jacket over a white shirt and tan pants. The painting is in the tradition of genre paintings with street children by Esteban Murillo (1617-1682). The topic was taken up by Pedro Núñez de Villavicencio (ca. 1635-1695). The present picture could come from a follower of him. Oil on canvas. doubled, 76 x 59 cm
