The lithograph depicts the monumental sculpture "Tindaro," which was moved in mid-September 2025 from Paris to Warsaw. The sculpture aroused great interest among collectors and was sold at auction for an impressive 6.89 million zlotys, setting a new record for Igor Mitoraj's works.
Igor MITORAJ (1944-2014)
Sculptor, educated at the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow in Tadeusz Kantor's painting studio. In 1968 he moved to Paris. Fascinated by Latin American art, he spent a year in Mexico, at which time he became interested in sculpture. In 1974, he returned to Paris. The development of Mitoraj's sculptural work was determined by the success of his solo exhibition at La Hune gallery . Initially he created in terracotta and bronze. After a trip to Carrara, Italy, in 1979, he took up marble as his primary medium. In 1983 he set up a studio in Pietrasanta and here the artist's first monumental sculptures were created. Mitoraj has had numerous solo exhibitions, and his sculptures can be found in many cities in Europe, America and Japan. Mitoraj's art refers to classical sculpture with its penchant for presenting the human body. The artist focuses his attention on human torsos, faces, emphasizing their incompleteness, damage, injuries.
