lithograph, paper, 28.3 x 20 cm (light frame), signed on the plate p. d.: AM.
The work was made especially for a portfolio published by the Art and Literary Circle in Cracow in 1881, whose purpose was to raise funds for the reconstruction of the Croatian capital Zagreb, affected by the earthquake a year earlier.

The lithograph was made in1881 at Aureliusz Pruszyński's Artistic Lithography Workshop in Krakow, 17 Pijarska Street, founded in 1873. Many artists, including L. Wyczółkowski, were able to make their own prints here.

Aureliusz Pruszyński (9.09.1847 Kasinka Mała Powi. Limanowa - 22.04.1904 Kraków) was a Kraków lithographer, owner of the highly regarded Aureliusz Pruszyński Artistic Lithography Workshop in Kraków established in 1873 at 17 Pijarska Street, from ca 1902 his son Zenon Pruszyński was the owner of the workshop (see SAP vol. 8 pp. 92-93). In the factory of A. Pruszyński since the end of the 19th century, the leading artists of Cracow printed their graphic works in lithography (including posters), including the famous "Teka Melpomena"

Aleksander Mroczkowski (19.11. or 25.11.1850 Krakow - 26.08.1927 Stubno near Przemyśl) painter. Studied from 1865 to 1873 at the School of Fine Arts (SSP) in Cracow under Władysław Łuszczkiewicz, Feliks Szynalewski and Leon Dembowski, from 1873 to 1877 he studied at the Munich academy and again at the SSP from 1877 to 1881 in the studio of Jan Matejko. He spent the years 1882-1888 in Munich, from 1890 settled in Cracow, and around 1920 settled in Stubno. While studying in Krakow, he wandered around the provinces and painted genre scenes, landscapes and portraits. He also later painted polychromes and sacred paintings as well as watercolors, and continued to enjoy painting landscapes often of the Tatra Mountains. He exhibited works continuously at TPSP in Krakow from 1875, in Lviv and in 1884-1906 in Warsaw; see SAP vol. 5 ss. 654-655.
