Andrzej Strumillo (1928-2020) - was born in Vilnius in 1928. He graduated from the painting department of the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow (1950). He was involved in painting, drawing, book graphics, posters, sculpture, exhibitions, stage design and photography. He exhibited his works all over the world. He taught painting and art history at several universities. He has made numerous trips to Asian countries. From 1982 to 1984 he headed the United Nations Graphic Arts Studio in New York. He developed a wide variety of book editions. He was active in the protection of nature and native cultural property. He received the title of Honorary Citizen of Suwałki and Ambassador of Culture of Podlasie. He received a number of awards, decorations and orders, including: Knight's, Officer's and Commander's Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta, Gold Medal Gloria Artis and Gold Cross of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany.
