Zhitomir photo by H. Kozlovsky - Ludwik Szallaj or Szalay. 1860s XIX century Very rare plant.
Dimension 107 x 60 mm
Ludwik Szalay, born 1855, appears in the context of the January Uprising as a 7-year-old courier, later a well-known lawyer. We have no confirmation if this is the person in the photograph.
"Born in 1855, he transported orders and insurgent mail as a 7-year-old boy on a pony, which was hidden on his chest under his dresses. After the uprising he was a national lawyer."
