Rare Severus denarius minted at the Middle East mint in Emesa (now Homs in Syria). Emesa was the hometown of Julia Domna, wife of Severus and mother of Caracalla. The latter emperor gave him the rank of a Roman colony. There was a temple of the sun in Emesa, where Elagabalus served as priest before becoming emperor.
