A rare, striking brakteat due to the Latin inscription referring to Leszek's father - KAZIMIERZ THE JUSTICE.
Initially, due precisely to the legend DVX AZIMIR, attributed to various princes named Casimir.
Only Stanislaw Suchodolski challenged all theories, attributing this type of coin to Leszek the White.
The appearance of Casimir's name would have been an invocation of the prestige of his senior father (Casimir the Just), while the image of the bishop referred to St. Adalbert or St. Stanislaus.
Kraków (or Sandomierz) issue.
A beautiful piece, with mint luster and fine patina. Slight crack at the edge.
Definitely recommended.
Obverse: half-figure of a bishop in a mitre, with a pastoral, below an inscription DVX AZIMIR
