A bronze issue of Lampsakos dated to around 362 BC is associated with the activity of the satrap Orontas, one of the Achaemenid governors in Asia Minor during the 4th century BC.
Orontas is attested in historical sources, including Xenophon and Diodorus Siculus, particularly in connection with the so-called Revolt of the Satraps. Coin issues attributed to his administration belong to the relatively rare examples bearing the name of a Persian official struck in a Greek city of Asia Minor, providing important evidence for the relationship between local civic authorities and Achaemenid imperial power.
