August II the Strong, Wedding Thaler, 1719, IGS, Dresden – rare and very attractive
A talar of Augustus II minted to commemorate the wedding of Crown Prince Frederick Augustus II, later King Augustus III of Saxony, to Maria Josepha of Habsburg, Archduchess of Austria.
Obverse:
Two hands entwined around two burning hearts. At the top, in a semicircle, the inscription: INDISSOLVBILITER
Reverse:
Beneath the apple, an inscription in 10 lines: SIGNATIS / PACT CONIVG / INTER / SER PRINC REG POL / ET ELECT SAXON / ET SER PRINC R HVNG / BOH & ARCHIDVC AVSTR / VIENNAE / A MDCCXIX / IGS (initials of Johann Georg Schomburg—Master of the Dresden Mint) and hooks (the mint mark of the Dresden Mint).
Condition: PCGS MS62
A beautifully struck and preserved coin. Vivid relief. Beautiful detail. Brilliance and numismatic luster. The mint condition is confirmed by a very high PCGS grade. Only one piece has received a higher PCGS grade. In this condition, the coin is rare and difficult to find on the collector’s market. A beautiful piece for discerning collectors.
