The highest denomination of the first Second Polish Republic banknotes (1924 issue)—a distinctive series whose imagery combined depictions of the coins they replaced with those of Warsaw monuments (for the 50 groszy note, a monument to Prince Józef Poniatowski).
They were issued directly by the Ministry of the Treasury (rather than by the issuing bank). They served to supplement the money supply at a time of a noticeable shortage of coins on the market. Denominations ranging from 1 to 50 groszy were produced at that time, but only the three highest denominations (10, 20, and 50 groszy) were not reprints.
