Louis Roederer is one of the few houses that remains owned by the family that manages it. It was originally founded as Dubois Pere et Fils in 1776, and gained its current name and first popularity after Louis Roederer took it over in 1833. It was not until his successor, Louis Roederer II, and his sister Leonie Olry, that the brand was elevated to the high level for which we know it today.
Cristal is the most important champagne in the manufacturer's portfolio. It most fully expresses the style and character of the manufacturer. It has enjoyed fame for centuries, first among the social elite, and in recent decades also among pop culture stars. It is created only in vintages considered exceptional, and is always a blend of pinot noir and chardonnay.
Cristal 2005 is a beautiful champagne, especially for the challenging conditions of this demanding vintage. Rich and complex, balanced between a distinctly fruity bouquet featuring crisp apples, pears and nectarines and a more dry character based on notes of fresh brioche and minerality. A honeycomb in the background. The finish is long and salty, closing the wine in a truly elegant way.
