Hanna KRZETUSKA-GEPPERT
1903 Kraków - 1999 Trzebnica
From 1920 to 1924 she studied easel painting at the Ludwika Mehoffer Free School of Painting and Drawing in Cracow under professors: J. Fedkowicz, Z. Pronaszka, J. Rubaczek. In 1925 she left for Paris for further artistic studies. Since 1926 she was a member of ZPAP, and since 1937 of the Association of Artists "Zwornik". With Eugeniusz Geppert, whom she later married, she later collaborated in founding the Academy of Fine Arts in Wroclaw. She was associated with the academy from 1948 to 1960, first as a senior assistant, and from 1958 as head (together with Z. Karpinski) of the painting studio. In 1961, together with her husband, she founded an artistic grouping, originally called the School, and since 1967 - the Wroclaw Group.
She was regarded as an emancipist and a very independent person. Despite the fetters of convention, first pre-war and then post-war (in the context of her status as "the painting wife of a PWSSP professor"), her initial reluctance to marry, and her artistic ambitions, she managed to reconcile her family with her art, but the sense of unequal opportunities troubled her to the end of her life. In the 1980s, she wrote: "My works only in recent years have gained some recognition. And so normally, I've always been Geppert's "painting wife." And this, in turn, was what I most did not want."
