[Szancer, Jan Marcin]. The Book of the Parrot: Persian Fairy Tales. Edited by Wanda Markowska and Anna Milska. Illustrated by Jan Marcin Szancer. Warsaw 1951. Książka i Wiedza, p. 37, [2], numerous color illustrations, including full-page ones, 30 cm, publisher’s half-leather binding with an illustration on the front cover.
First Polish edition. Ancient Persian fairy tales, published based on Nechszebi’s work from 1330. Translated by Wanda Markowska (1912–1999) and Anna Milska (1909–1987), who jointly published many collections of folk tales from various countries, adapted for young readers. The numerous illustrations by Jan Marcin Szancer (1902–1973)—a graphic artist, illustrator, professor at the Academy of Fine Arts, and one of the most famous and recognizable book illustrators, primarily for children and young adults—capture the exotic, Middle Eastern atmosphere. Slight wear on the cover; otherwise, in very good condition.
