Cityscape depicting a romantic, slightly impressionistic street scene of Montmartre in Paris, overlooking the Sacré-Cœur Basilica.
The painting is painted with broad brushstrokes, with a pleasing harmonization of colors. The composition has a dynamic yet nostalgic atmosphere, with warm shades of yellow and ochre with contrasting grays.
The presence of a female figure in the foreground introduces a genre scene, making the painting not only a record of architecture, but also of the daily life of the Parisian artists' quarter. The subject matter and style are indicative of the Paris School.
