DESCRIPTION OF WORK:
One of the main domains of Antoni Piotrowski's art was genre scenes related to the everyday life of the Mazovian countryside. The featured work shows a sad episode inside a dark peasant cottage. A sick woman lies on her bed, with her prayerful husband and her daughter, who is peeling vegetables, keeping vigil by her side. The painting shows the influence of the work of the pioneers of realism in Polish art - Wojciech Gerson and Aleksandr Kotsis. Noteworthy are the chiaroscuro aspects, clearly fascinating the painter - these interests are evident, for example, in the depiction of the girl's shadowy head against the background of a bright window.
