porcelain sculpture made by casting technique, h 13x19x22 cm; signed
Yoichiro Kamei's work is distinguished by the simultaneous achievement of originality in the spatial-structural concept and technical skill in constructing complex forms in porcelain. Porcelain lattices are to be understood as primordial scaffolding. Each lattice is constituted through an accumulation of basic units - a hollow cubic form - realised through the technique of casting. The production methodology of the accumulation of a unit thus results in a geometric structure with a strong aesthetic value capable of determining space and density: form and internal space thus become the centre of Yoichiro Kamei's aesthetic code.
