Emanuel Edmund HERNCISZ (1858-1885)
Studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow under W. Łuszczkiewicz, J. Matejko. In 1882-1883 studied at the Academy in Munich (scholarship from the Austrian government). In Munich he was friends with S. Bieszczad and A. Mroczkowski as well as with F. Streit and A. Kozakiewicz. He painted genre scenes from the life of the Polish countryside, historical paintings, in which the influence of the Munich school and the influence of the painting of Jan Matejko, from whom he took the blunt characterization of figures, are evident. He exhibited at TPSP in Cracow, TZSP in Warsaw, Munich, Budapest, among others. Retrospective exhibition in 1898.
