Extremely rare medal minted on the occasion of the coronation of John III Sobieski in 1676.
Medal unlisted by Raczyński! In Hutten-Czapski's collection, out of four medals from the SIC MUNITA TUTIOR series, only this one was struck in silver. Czapski gave it much higher degree of rarity (R5) than the other three, gold medals (R2).
It's hard to find a stronger recommendation.
Medal unsigned.
Ex. Potocki collection.
Detail excellent, practically uncirculated.
Obverse: bust of the King in antique armour, right, head in a laurel wreath
IOAN III D G REX POL M D LIT R PR
Reverse: An eagle flying towards the sun, with the Sobieski coat of arms on its chest.
